SOCIO ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF THE DRAG WORLD AND OTHER TRAPS!

When I officially started wearing some wigs and collecting high heels and evening gowns (at the start of this year 1997),  I did not realize I was heading on into another addiction  – and I keep on falling and falling like a dead leaf on a bottomless pit.

It was so easy to fall into the trap and then I woke up this morning with an ache to have a break and look back.

…………..  I think I am getting sick, tired and bored with drag and I want some reprieve from the drag world!  At least for awhile!

Our lounge room is now filled with tiaras,  Priscilla head pieces of flowers and feathers,  boxes of shoes and make up, and plastic bags of wigs and costumes.   Our “normal” dressing room is now occupied with gowns, sequined materials,  pantyhoses, bikinis, etc, etc.  And a visitor or a house intruder would think one of the residents is a woman!

Our schedules and activities are more or less centered in drag.  And our friends are drag queens and related to drag!

Ohhh… I am so drag addicted! And in my bid to become a drag queen, I have even recruited my partner (who is an ex Australian Army) to become a drag princess like moi.  Well, I guess I am at least successful in this field!

I do not have time for my old friends and other activities anymore.  I have missed birthdays, house warming parties etc of our friends and family.

And yes, drag life is bound to be very expensive especially if you veer into the more classy and quality drag personality.   A beautiful and quality wig alone would cost around $400!  And the stilleto shoes would be around $150 and you have to have at least three of them.  Plus all the expensive gowns!

Time and money!

Definitely you are creating another person or various identities and these creations need paraphernalias, costumes and other what nots!  And if you are not creative enough and do not like rummaging items in second hand shops  – then you are up to a bigger challenge.  Time and credit cards are all that is needed to fix it all up.

With the star politics between drag queens and the hair pulling tonque lashing back stabbing dramas involved and being evolved in this supposed to be creative world – you would easily get lost in the track of fun, friendship and sense of humour!

Drag world should not be taken seriously!   Not a way of life.  And should not -  and never rule your life.  Yes, it is an outlet of your creative side and should just remain as such.

Well, I should remember that!  :)

Hi Kyels

Yes, ha,ha,ha!

I’m really sick and tired of drag! Maybe I should do something different instead!

Doing drag for a cause! Maybe, giving meaning to this superficial world! Yeahhhh…

Yeah, I agree with that saying. It’s with everything. You cant let ANYTHING rule over your life. When something takes over your life, it blinds you to the rest of the world and you lose contact with those who were once close to you. That’s why they’re always saying, everything should be done in moderation, including drag. I hope whatever you think you lost isnt lost for good…

darn, di lumabas ang comment ko!

ehem… ehem…

Drag with a purpose. I love that. Gay beauty titlists could possibly do more than them women, not that I am against Mrs. Araneta.

Let’s spend those dollars on something more worthwhile, dahlin!

GO!
