I nearly forgot how reading books could effectively kill time and make you immerse yourself totally into another world … of pure escapism!
Yes, bored shitless during the holidays (can you believe it?? there were so many extra times left after all the parties, cleaning up and shopping) and you would not want to domesticate yourself too much either! Or you won’t anymore call it holidaze…
You need a good book to pass the time away on these empty waiting times/periods – like on the tram, buses, plane, or simply while lying naked on the bed waiting for your eyes and brain to bring you to dreamland … or waiting for things to happen which didn’t.
I should say, the book is your silent loyal friend - easy to pick up and let go! And there are so many of them.
I do judge the book by its cover. Beautiful cover usually means good reading. Hmmm… Correct ??? Yeah, but this one really got me hooked. Love at first sight. And the title is really catchy, a bit haunting, too.
My Sister’s Keeper – by Jodi Picoult. It has been on the shelves for the past four years – and when you go to Borders – you see a lot of Picoult books with these beautiful titles and covers. Now, a lot of bookworms would have read all of Picoult’s for she writes beautifully on these interesting and even unique aspects of life, death, love and relationships.

Makes you wonder whether these cases really exist – they must! The morality involved in genetic pregnancy for the purpose of saving another person’s life is quite engrossing. And what would be your stand on issues of organ donation? Simple questions like would you even have thought of donating your organs - kidney, heart, etc - upon death or near death scenarious? Would you?
This was really worth reading, although honestly, I get annoyed, confused with the constant change of character’s view. And their names would not stick in my mind like rice – Anna, Sara, Brian, Kate. But there must be a reason why Picoult used this style. The ending was sudden and there were usual twists of course. The court scenes and dialogue, cliche – but still heart rending.
And I thought I was well consummed by Harry Potter’s Deathly Hallows. Quite the opposite. Next one – Atonement by Ian McEwan!
Happy Reading!

I’d love to read Atonement; the movie is out but I had no time to watch it at the movie house. Gah!
I want to read more starting this year, too. If only I could say no to TV! Grrrrr…
Nevertheless, next up for me is The Time Traveller’s Wife.
