Last Wednesday, I performed at the Opium Den again and this time, I was a bit more adventurous with my drag make up.
.
.
Drag is going beyond the extraordinary!  Beyond being fabulous!  And tha is basically just in the makeup!
.
.
.

You know it when you achieve the look that you want - and when you just look awful.
.
.
Drag queens, know that when putting on the best drag make up for a performance - is doing half of the battle.   It is like going to the war - you have to be fully equipped and scabbered.  Like using the best up to date weapons of war,  wearing your most incredible make up creation,  ensures you winning the subtle battle of the drag queens.
.
.
Definitely, my make up was ok.  I think for more than one year now of dabbling with make up, I am beginning to discover a lot of things that you can do with it.
.
.
Looking good is important.  You don’t want to look laughingly ordinary - like your old provincial aunt wearing those out of dated powder and lipstick to church.  But you don’t want to overdo it and look like a ghoulish monster in a horror show either!
.
.
After the show, one of my trusted Asian friend asked me who did the make up of the other performer.   I asked why?  He said it looked terribly terrifying - as in the bad way!   She (the other drag queen) used blue and green make up - like blue black lipstick and she did a matching rendition in her eyes as well.  I thought it was very drag, when we were at the dressing room.  But she did not look good on the stage, apparently, as what the other Asian friend observed!
.
.
Visually appealing, interesting on stage! You may not look good close up with bare light while on the dressing room - but on the stage you should look amazing!  Keywords you have to bear in mind when you do the make up.

I always thought that make up is really an art like painting but the canvas is the face rather than paper or whatever. It is really nice to experiment in order to create a perfect look or something that is revolutionary!

Make up is fun b/c it gives you the opportunity to create a new visual and it depends on the creativity to actually look good. Pero it takes a lot of time! Hehe!

I love makeup and wish I could play with it as freely and creatively as you do. But I’d have to be on stage lang (eeek dyahe ako :) ). So I continue live my fantasy through you!!!

My challenge is photography/stage makeup talaga. Like when I’m being photographed, I know I should use a heavier hand and exaggerate my features, let my knowledge of highlight and contour be my guide. But once I get to that point where parang everything looks too “much,” I stop. Tuloy, mukha akong washed out palagi. I guess the “natural look” only works when you’re being looked at up close and personal, in a natural setting. I need you to be my guide instead!

@ CHARLES
Yes, you have to be a little bit of an artist in order to do beautiful faces…. and i think it takes a lot of practice, trial and error, and a lot of passion.

@ LYKA
Vongga ka rin day!

@ KYELS
Yeah, but for once you know what you are doing, what would take up like one hour - would only be ten minutes or even less.

@ AARON
Maganda nga….

@ IRENE
Yes, my dear… just pay for my airline ticket to Manila please….

@ GIGI
You must be very good with make up - as you are a beauty enthusiast….. you should be my guide instead :)
