Hi Jayse!

Greetings from a real (anatomical-at-least) sister in hist. section of Germantown, Philadelphia, USA! My name is Frosty; I am a 60 yr. old hag transport from Santa Fe to Philly. (I spent most of my life in Midwest USA prior to 1999 move to SantaFe, NM). I LOVE your web site. I’ve seen lots of em and yours is very superior. I can’t wait to explore it in depth. Thank you for all your creative efforts. It’s truly a gift to the Net!

I have been a fan of drag for yrs & yrs. I agree that Ru Paul is one of greatest; I don’t know of any MORE talented; but have you seen MiMi Marx? She is a beautiful blond doll, she won a large transsexual beauty pagent in Los Vegas recently that was shown on Nat’l Cable Network, Showtime. Some folks don’t like including trannies in this catagory, but MiMi did years & years in Chicago. She was very famous for her Madonna act. It’s said that Madonna loved coming to her shows & would get real get down, dancing on tables w/Mimi. MiMi had trained, in her male youth, w/the national olympics gymnastics team that is seen in her fabulous dance moves. She had a different style than Ru, but she is very talented. Also very beautiful. Small, petite and blonde-blue eyed doll.

Also in Beverly Hills Cabaret to Midwest came Holly Brown, one of your own, from Australia. She was a Legger Girl. Holy was not a singer or dancer, she mostly did stage readings of people like Betty Davis, Joan Crawford and other camp icons. She did her own voices, she never mimed a song, it was not the S&D type drag. I have seen old videos of Holly and she was truly an original. She came to Beverly Hills to work at the LeCage Nightclub, which I hear, sadly closed. She followed her boyfriend out to Midwest and did lots of work bringing Drag Cabaret to the Heartland. She was a very beloved HouseMother. She got wonderful “press”. Her shows sold out, night after night, in a very conservative factory city/siberia like Milwaukee. She also worked in Chicago. When she died of AIDS in 1990 she left our town a sadder place. Holly went back home to Sydney to spend her last days and she is still missed, by those who survived those plague years.

In San Francisco, in the disco years there was the Fabulous Sylvester. He had several hit tunes, my favorite being “Star” (everybody is a star) You Make Me Feel Mighty Real. His apearance reminded me of Ru Paul. Tall and sleek. He put out quite a daunting preformance in the Castro Dance Clubs. His records were national hits. I wished I’d been able to see more of his performance. I think I will check out You Tube. There is a good book written on him. You might like Sylvester.

So, Jayse, I found three talented artists without thinking too hard about it. The do not detract from Ru Paul’s amazing work, they just add more to a wonderful art form that I happen to enjoy a lot.

Thanks again for your wonderful web site. I want to get those CDs of affirmations. I really enjoyed those, they made lots of sense. Some of them, I have seen before, but you selected the best of em.

Frosty:
Thanks for mentioning Holly Brown. I was a young queen coming up in Milwaukee (Siberia) in the 80’s and I dearly remember Holly Brown. A fabulous entertainer. She did an A1 Bette Davis singing Madonna’s “Like A Virgin”… “*&#!!’ed For the Very First Time!”. Did you also know Ginger Spice (long before the Spice Girl’s version)? Both were sadly taken by AIDS. I have many fond memories of them both performing at Tony Canfora’s Club 219.

Great website, Jase. Hope life is good for you.

I was just thinking about Holly, and Googled her name. I am SO happy that she is still fondly remembered, and still a topic.
Before she went back to Sydney, she invited me to her apt. for a “ballgown and artwork” sale. I bought some dresses and a beautiful painting by her. She made me SWEAR to never sell it- or she would “haunt me”.
I definately miss the great shows emceed by her…those were the days. And yes, Mimi Marx was amazing too. Is she still performing in Chicago? I’ve lost touch since so many in that circle/time have sadly passed away.
