AN EASTER REVUE

18 04 2006

As I was kneeling on four, brushing our old “baltic pine” wood floor with opaque lacquer to give it a final gloss, I contemplated on my life and where my values are. Am I becoming more of a slave to material things? Am I being fearful of days when I/we would be short of cash, jobless and under concession (government aid)? Am I being terrified of what people would say? Am I being worried more of things that are temporary? Am I not free? Am I at the brink of insanity? These were questions of penance, is suppose, that lingered on until the end of the easter weekend.

Last night, we watched a movie called V, and apart from all the other scenes which were totally forgettable/ludicrous, there was a scene that really grabbed me by the throat. Natalie Portman was imprisoned, stripped, shaved, interrogated, floored down, etc. to the point where she willed to give her life in lieu of the truth. When she was ready to die and give it all, she felt free - for she finally reached that reality than there is more to being just alive. Values such as heroism, love and honor, freedom.

In the celebration of the Easter week, I was again reminded that there is more to life than these. The magic of the flowers I captured above, during the International Flower Melbourne Exhibition last week, reveals it all.

Peace!

WE ARE MOVING WITH COLORS …

13 04 2006

The following are some raw shots of the rooms before we did some works on it.

This is one of the bedroom shots taken from inside which is originally neutral white (a little bit beigy) all throughout. We are changing this into a guestroom cum study and video room since it is adjacent to the lounge room. A sofa bed in brown/green will reside here.

We are thinking of light leaf green (hint of green) as accent color for this room with dark strong green as feature wall on the fireplace. We have not started painting yet since we are doing the floor at the moment - polished baltic. This is a shot looking inside.

Originally this was our bedroom as I liked its location - being on the second floor and away from all the noise. We transferred the bed to the yellow room downstairs so we could rip the carpet out and start grinding the floor to polish it. Haarrd work for N!

This is the lounge room in disarray as we are in the process of painting the feature wall with emperor red. This is to complement the chinois furniture and the asian decor. I would love to see this room when finished.

This is my chosen color scheme for the house (as i am the assigned interior decorator) - dessert orange, lightest bright yellow, new green, a bit of blue, emperor red. These are just accent and feature colors to give the whole house a certain feel of coziness, light, warmth, and freshness which is rare in an old victorian house.

My partner N replastering the ceiling. Note the newly painted wall. Me doing the big work as well. The feature wall goes well with the brick wall of the fireplace as well. We had fun getting the right color of red that we want - my water based paint tubes for painting did the final trick. I look so drab and unglamorous in this one.

THE YELLOW ROOM:

This is the converted yellow room. I have to find photos when it was still in raw horrible green and pale dead yellow. The colors were really awesome and giving the room an old dark atmosphere. I can’t believe the previous owners chose these colors. I think we decided well on the yellow and alabaster white.

So there you are…. these are just few shots and I am going to make this a big project - (some of the photos are from my nokia phone so it is not that definitive) but we are doing ala Changing Rooms by the Fab Fives except that they are not here in the land of Oz. Expect more photos and developments especially that we will be working full time on the Easter weekend! Horrible yeah!
