WHO IS DR WHO ???

5 08 2008

Hey, I am not a sci-fi fan and will never  be … but my houseband he is.  And he is fanatically obssessed, so to speak!

He has the widest collection of DVDs of his favorite science fiction  like Battlestar Galactica,  Andromeda,  Star Wars, Star Treks and recently Dr Who.  I think it is his old time one remaining passion, though which I cannot relate to, I totally support and love him for it.

Why ? Because I can leave him for the whole day (or night) while he is sitting infront of the tv with only coffee and some nibblies and his favorite sci- fi on, and he is totally relaxed and happy, even without my wonderful presence.  It is definitely one of the safer activity that he can do by himself without me, as I am totally uninterested!

I just could not really stand science fictions.  To me, they are all the same – same storyline but different characters and costumes.  Well, the only redeeming value for me are some of the really hot actors in their space suits and the unbelievably stunning costumes they use in Battlestar Galactica.  Still, I’d rather watch my Miss Universe collections :)

Recently, Dr Who is in everynight when there is nothing on television.  The latest series – with this really smart looking, gay looking smooth tonqued doctor, made me sit down for three hours!   And I could not believe it!   Well, David Tennant, as Doctor Who gave science fiction, a new look!   More exciting and I just love his Scottish-Brit accent.  And his funny facial expressions … very fierce and almost childlike… and the fabulous converse shoes in different colors.

But hearing the rumour that David Tennant is gay actually prompted me to watch this series.  Is David Tennant really gay???  Being awarded the Sexiest man alive by some gay and lesbian award giving body, would have made him a gay icon, but is he really gay?  Well, by the way he looks and the way he acts, I’d be damned if he does not have at least 75% of gay genes in his armpits !

I love the Titanic episode with Kylie Minogue - a science fiction with gay icons has just become so campy.  I cannot believe, for the first time, I enjoyed watching a science fiction, and became an instant fan of Dr Who.

A surprised Doctor

A crazy Doctor

A seemingly angry doctor

A smitten Doctor (ohhh the cat is sooo cute!)

LIFELONG COMMITMENT

16 06 2008

Following the tv sitcom Brothers and Sisters is like going through a mountain/forest trek. You may not enjoy every moment of it, but there are moments that just takes your breath away.  Just like the sudden commitment ceremony of Kevin and Scotty, in last nights episode.

It is not because I am totally gay that I secretly rejoice when I see two guys exchanging vows. It is about the triumph of love and the honesty and bravery to face a commitment that you see and share between the partners, and their families and friends who support them.

When two guys exchange their rings as a sign of their love and devotion to each other, it is a if time stops in that moment and gathers all their past and future life to that single moment that marries these two lives together.

Like two rivers that meet and merge as one.

There was no malice, prejudice nor feelings of a mocked ceremony. All there was, was happiness and well wishes of a voyage into a lifelong commitment. (Well, the actors must be so good they are so believably in synch with their acting as seen in their eyes and facial expressions, especially Scotty)

Short, simple and sweet.  Not too much drama (unlike Kitty’s).  And except for Nora’s over-indulged flower arrangements, no fussed.

I wish that the writers should portray a successful gay marriage despite the odds – just like the ones that are existing and still going stronger as the years go by.

To Kevin and Scotty !

And the rest of us!

TRANS AUSTRALIA ANYONE ???

20 05 2007

Hi girls… and boys!

Well, despite that usual hype (Oscars, etc)  re: the movie TransAmerica starring the ill fated Desperate of a housewife actress + with a funny name FELICITY HUFFMAN (that’s how I remember her!  I like her character in DH with that funny name again – Lynette Scavo!),  I finally managed to watch the movie last weekend !

My greatest fear was that Felicity (being a woman actor)  would not be convincing enough to essay the role of a complex transgender.   My question was – why was the role not given to gay actors and to some real transgender ones?

Not discounting the talent of Felicity or Lynette (as I remember her), as an accomplished actor, I watched the movie with an open mind.  But then still, I could not detach the picture of Lynette’s character while watching the movie.

Well she managed to look transgendered enough – in some instances  (minus the lurking Adam’s Apple) like when she was having a pee and showed his peewee with all its glory (I found this very disturbingly funny).  And managed to tweak and deepened her voice.

But still still – I can see Lynette Scavo in Desperate Housewife – trying to bully her sons and husband!  Maybe I am watching DH too much!

The good thing about the movie is that it does show the different aspects of life that are affected when one decides to change his gender.   For indeed this is not just some sort of plastic surgery.  It is a life changing event that twist and turn relationships.

There would be a lot of setbacks but then if one is really determined – no one can stop one from doing what you think is best and makes you truly happy and fulfilled.   One thing I also learned is that Los Angeles would be a good place to live if you want to pass as a GG (genuine girl).  Take note!

I might be a freaking cross dresser and a drag queen protegy – but lately I came to a realization that I would never become a transexual or transgender - no way!   Well, there was a point in my young life when I secretly and passionately dreamed of becoming a woman who would be desired and loved by real men (not gay guys ha!) but then it was only a dream worth forgetting now.

The thought of going through all these psychological, clinical and hormone adjustments and the final step (gender re-assignment) of re-inventing a vagina by re-assemblying the penis and female breasts really freaks me out!

I think I would like to be a girl or a woman through some magic potions or like being transformed beautifully and painlessly by a magician !!!  And not through all the horrific dramas of real life!  Dramas which would actually transform you not even into a passable girl or woman, but into some tragic confused gender of some sort!

Yesss…  I am happy just impersonating women and putting on the makeup -  once in a while :)   And going back to my usual dorky self.   I’d like to think I am more of a performer who is obssessed with the stage and the glitz and glamour and excitement that go with it!

Even just in small doses!

How about you ????

DREAM… DREAM… DREAM!

24 01 2007

I was so depressed after watching this movie!   I could not help it but be swept away by the emotions, the songs, choreography and the costumes.   The wigs are so fabulous I pinched myself for not watching this movie before doing our show.  I should have learned some tricks and ideas – like wearing your wig the other way around!

I am sure this movie will be a constant source of inspiration for drag queens and performers from now onwards!
