A LITTLE BIT OF PAIN GOES A LONG LONG WAY!
11 12 2006
Saturday 34 degrees, Sunday 37 degrees. I was euphoric! Despite the national alert for sunstroke and UV rays in Victoria (bushfires everywhere and the city was enveloped by smokes!!!), I gleefully went around in my cargo pants, bond’s singlet, and thongs.
Did not even bother putting on some sunscreen protection. First time on a weekend that we have this hot hot weather. I was transported in the Philippines.
So Ala Pinoy style, I shopped with an open body-mind-soul, in an open Sunday market for almost two hours finding the right gifts for friends and enemies - unperturbed by the oven like heat of the sun! A woman market seller asked me whether I was not feeling burnt at all looking at my happy face, since most Aussies were really festered and flustered and could not stand the blazing heatwave. I wickedly said ”No, I love love love this heat!!!”, like I was a demon from hell.
I was having my revenge againts the cold Melbourne weather, and it feels sooo good! I was thinking, by this time tomorrow I will have a beautiful brown tan to be envied by people at work. Not like the fake tan I used to spray and turns me orange!
Last night, I felt the pain of a first degree burn in my arms, shoulders and upper back. It is scalding. I have forgotten how this burning pain feels like. The red burnt soft skin that is so painful when touched. Call me masochistic, but honestly, I like this sweet burning pain! Like being slowly roasted alive on a burning charcoal - a pig on a roast pit! The oil of your skin pouring out! A very catarthic feeling! Yes! But I am beginning to feel really hot, hot, hot! My breath is hot!
And suddenly I wanted to lick a galloon of ice cream and gulp a liter of icy cold coke. I was really hot and I ran towards the cold icy fresh breeze of an air conditioned room. I’ve never ever liked being cold until yesterday.
Burning skin against freezing cold air. It is a wonderful state of being alive!
Lucky it is cold again today!
